The Gift of Giving 2018 

As a way of helping our community during the holiday season we revamped our December project of helping the homeless by expanding to other areas of the community that needed our help. These activities relate to our Club theme, by bringing awareness to the needs of our community, our members are growing during the process and as well as being the inspiration by doing all of the below stated and by collaborating with our Sponsor Rotary Club and Interact Club we are definitely living up to the We R mantra. 

Project activities: 

  1. Wilhelmina Kanker Fonds: we provided our time to help the Cancer Foundation with their fundraising event “Crossing for Hope” which entailed that swimmers swam from Venezuela to Aruba for the cause, total money raised was US$16k which they use to help cancer patients and their families. 

  2. Hand 4 Addicts (homeless addicts): in collaboration with the Hand 4 Addicts foundation, we organized a Christmas Morning of Self Care and Celebration for the Homeless. This entailed, collecting clothing from the Public by Rotaract, collecting non-perishable food items by Interact Club of Aruba, sorting these items, items not used for Hand 4 Addicts were donated to Fundacion pa nos Comunidad (Aruba Food Bank), preparing a Christmas Lunch for the Homeless, serving them on the event day. The foundation provided haircuts, shave, shower and a fresh change of clothes provided by Rotaract. 

  3. SABA (home of the elderly): we donated funds towards a concert of traditional Aruban Christmas Music for dementia patients and elderly of the Elderly Home Foundation in Aruba. As well as we were present hands-on on the day of the concert to help with the setup, during the event and spending time with the elderly. 

  4. Sonrisa (after school program for persons with a mental disability): together with the Rotary Club of Aruba we provided the clients of Sonrisa a nice Christmas Lunch accompanied by Live Christmas Music, we served and celebrated the Holiday season with them.

  5. La Fama Soccer club: based on the needs of the community and soccer club, we provided the soccer team with a Christmas gift which was a soccer ball, we also attended their training and saw the grateful and happy faces of the Children and motivated volunteers that take care of the Children.

  6. Rotary Golf Fundraiser: Golf tournament organized by Rotary Aruba in which Rotaract helps on the day of the event. Donations made to different organizations in our community.
